Trending: Rebellious Street Wear

“Who am I today?  That is the modern approach in deciding what to wear.”
– Suzy Menkes, style editor of The International Herald Tribune, as quoted in Harper’s Bazaar, September 2013

Today’s fashion is all about choosing your identity and this season has presented distinct options for almost every persona.  From rebellious street wear to traditional American pastoral and ladylike silhouettes to gender-bending menswear, there’s a possibility for your varying identities all winter long.

If today you’re imagining yourself as a tough city girl, consider the rebellious street wear trend.

Punk fashions and tough street wear have emerged as major trends over the last year.  The latest looks use plaid, leather, chains, studs and spikes in a slightly glamorous way.  While these details add a little edge to an outfit, this trend is safely mainstream and easily accessible.  Moto jackets and faux leather pants can be found on numerous fashion blogs and in a great variety of retail stores.  Feel like a bad ass with a mainly black palette, a small collection of spiked accessories and something leather.

INVEST in a leather or faux moto jacket.  This adds-instant-edge piece should be in everyone’s wardrobe.

SAVE on accessories like studded heels and spiked jewelry.  Who knows how long the more punk items will be “in.”
